Biography / History
Governor Beriah Magoffin served in office from 1859-1862 as a Democrat. Originally from Mercer County, KY, Magoffin remained a resident of that county. His occupation was a Lawyer. While in office, Beriah Magoffin attempted to uphold Kentucky's neutrality as the Civil War began, but lost power to the pro-Union legislature. Governor Magoffin resigned in 1862 after negotiations allowed him to pick his successor.
