Wells was a lieutenant colonel with the 50th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Letters to his daughter during his service in the 50th Indiana Volunteer Infantry recounting his activities in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama while with the unit. Gives details of towns and camps occupied by the unit with attention to Union sentiment in the area. After the war he worked to organize the Grange in Indiana. Card file in repository
