Collection Overview

Biography / History
Paris, Kentucky, 17 miles from Lexington, is located in historic Bourbon County. Long famous for the production of thoroughbred horses and Bourbon whisky (which was named after the county) ceased production of the famous Kentucky liquor following the advent of Prohibition and never resumed after its repeal. However, the county is still home to over 90 horse farms. The courthouse depicted in one of the photos, built in 1908, is the fourth County courthouse built on the same site and renowned as one of the most beautiful in the state. All three of its predecessors were destroyed by fire. The dome features murals of the four seasons in farming in Bourbon County. The county's abundant supply of salt and quality water, coupled with an abundance of fertile farmland, has attracted inhabitants for untold centuries.
