James D. Rumsey, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, was the grandson of James Rumsey. James was born in Cecil County, Maryland, in 1743, and died in 1792, in Kentucky.

This single item collection consists of a letter dated April 18, 1830, to James D. Rumsey. The letter was written by Albert G. Hawes. The letter pertains to a memorial in behalf of James Rumsey, as the inventor of the steamboat, instead of Robert Fulton. This proposal wa to be handled, and any matters concerning it would be investigated by Congress. James D. Rumsey was advised by Hawes that the matter could take some time.
