Collection Overview

Biography / History
Isabel (McLennan) McMeekin was born in Louisville on November 19, 1895 to Alexander and Rosa (Harbison) McLennan. She was educated at Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut, and the University of Chicago. In 1921, she married Samuel H. McMeekin. Isabel wrote historical fiction with co-author Dorothy Clark between 1940 and 1961. Isabel produced a variety of literary work, including mysteries, short stories, poetry, and children’s literature during her lifetime. She died in Louisville on September 4, 1973.
Scope and Content
The Civil War scrapbook contains a Boston address directory which has newspaper clippings pasted onto the pages. The book dates are around the year 1851. The original creator of the scrapbook is unknown. The book was found, and then select pages were transcribed and put together into the transcript 'Lost and Found'. While the transcription is undated, the creator was Isabel McLennan McMeekin.

'Lost and Found' is a typed transcript of the Boston directory. This transcript is not the complete directory. It contains selections of the newspaper articles that are glued into the directory, but the articles that were selected and typed up are the complete articles as they appear in the directory. The transcript contains 527 pages, which includes a preface and explanatory note. The transcript was edited by Isabel McLennan McMeekin.

The Boston directory is from approximately 1851. It contains an almanac and the address directory for the city of Boston until it became a 'Civil War scrapbook.' Each page has clipped newspaper articles that were glued onto the pages of this directory. Some pages from the directory are missing. The creator of the scrapbook is unkown.
