Biography / History
James W. Holsinger, Jr. (b. 1939) worked at the United States Department for Veteran's Affairs from 1968 to 1994, holding its highest medical office of Chief Medical Officer, renamed later to Undersecretary of Health, from 1990-1994. He has had several other governmental positions, including his service in the Army Reserves from 1962-1993 and appointment as Secretary of Health and Family Services for Kentucky from 2003-2005. Holsinger has worked at the University of Kentucky in various faculty positions. He was Chancellor of the Chandler Medical Center from 1994-2003, during which time he received his bachelor's degree in human studies from the University of Kentucky. Holsinger has been Wethington Endowed Chair in the Health Sciences since 2001.
