Collection Overview

Biography / History
Ernest C. Doll was born on December 23, 1924 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was a World War II Veteran and saw combat in the US Naval Reserves after enlisting upon graduation from High School in 1943. Doll received the ETO ribbon and five battle stars from combat. After four and a half years of service in the Navy, Ernest enlisted in the US Army Air Corps as an officer in 1947. He was first assigned to Eglin Air Field with the 609th Army Air Forces Base Unit to work on the Climatic Hanger in the division of small arms testing. Doll spent time overseas in Germany during his US Air Force career for two years until 1950. In addition, Ernest also served in the Korean War. He was married to wife Billie Doll, and father of Cindy Doll. Ernest died on February 19, 1983 and is buried at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pennsylvania.

The Ernest C. Doll Air Force diary (dated 1947-1950; 0.1 cubic foot; 1 folder) describes the career of Sergeant Doll from the time of his discharge from the US Naval Reserves to his career in the US Air Force. The collection contains day-by-day accounts of Sergeant Doll's career from the bases he was stationed at both in the US and internationally, to personal events in the life of his family. The collection includes attached documents and official paperwork attached inside the diary. The diary is small and fragile; handle with care.
