- Biography / History
- Hospital superintendent, club member. May Ringo Thompson was born in Fleming County, Ky. and attended what became the University of Kentucky. After receiving medical training at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, she served as superintendent of Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Thompson also served as an officer in the Lexington, state, and national organizations of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
- Scope and Content
- The May Ringo Thompson papers (dated 1780-1940, bulk 1816-1918; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box and 1 folder) consist of the genealogical papers of May Ringo Thompson and her family. The earliest papers belonged to the Ringo family and include deeds, land grants, stock certificates, fragments of court cases, the will of Jonathan Pollitt (1816), bills, and receipts. Correspondence from family members discussing family life, social activities, slaves, and state politics is included. Prominent among the letters are those from Robert J. Lewis, a state legislator and member of the 1851 state constitutional convention. Thompson's personal papers include programs from DAR meetings, photographs of DAR members, and a papers prepared by Thompson about the first Kentucky legislature.
