Collection Overview

Biography / History
Same-sex relations were considered criminal in Kentucky prior to the decision in the court case Commonwealth v. Wasson in 1992. In this landmark case, the Kentucky Supreme Court overturned rulings by the Fayette District Court and the Fayette Circuit Court and found the sodomy law to violate citizens' rights to privacy and to equal protection under the law. The materials in this collection highlight support groups and organizations in Lexington and throughout the Commonwealth that were advocates for Kentucky's lesbian and gay community.
Scope and Content

The collection also includes directories of central Kentucky businesses supportive of the gay and lesbian community, programs for regional gay rights events, brochures for national support groups, and informational pamphlets on sexually transmitted diseases.
