- Scope and Content
- This miscellaneous group of programs from, and reviews of, musical performances dating from 1920 through 1934, belonged to Bessie Hand Browning (c. 1907-1985). Browning taught music and worked in administration in the Louisville Public Schools (later the Jefferson County Public Schools) for over forty years. She also taught part-time at the University of Louisville. Upon Browning's death in 1985, the items were given to Fay S. Trusty, a close friend and former voice student, by the administrator of the estate. The collection was then donated to the University Archives in 1995 by Trusty.
- The collection contains programs from the Brown Theatre, the Louisville Municipal Auditorium, and other theaters, schools, and churches in Louisville, representing mainly events sponsored by the Community Concert Association, the Civic Arts Association, the Wednesday Morning Club. Included in a few of the programs are sketches portraying the performing artists. It is arranged in chronological order.
