Collection Overview

Scope and Content
This is a single item collection written to William Taylor, of Oldham County, Kentucky, by Alexander Stuart of Stanton, Virginia. The document is dated Nov. 28, 1830. The letter is a reply to a previous letter sent to Stuart's father, Archibald, in 1826. In the letter, Stuart discusses a land survey his father had performed in 1797 for the late Colonel Briscoe. Stuart states that his father had purchased some of that land and his mother, Briscoe's daughter, had inherited 1/4 of the rest. Stuart's father had recently transfered his interest in the land to him. He gives a detailed history on the ownership of the land, including names and death dates. Stuart then asks if Taylor could provide any additional information on the land in case a court battle should ensue. He concludes by inquiring if Taylor will act as his agent in selling the land, which is located in Oldham County.
