Collection Overview

Biography / History
WAVE Radio first broadcast in 1933 from Louisville, KY with a 5 watt directional antenna. It was owned by George Norton who purchased Hopkinsville radio station WFIW, moved it to the top of the Brown Hotel in downtown Louisville and went on the air as a CBS affiliate with a 1,000 watt transmitter. WAVE went off the air in 1981.
Scope and Content
The collection is comprised of fifty five 1/4" reel to reel audio tapes. It contains the "Voices and Events" summary of the news for 1950 - 1956 and various political speeches by V.P. Barkley, Gov. "Happy" Chandler and Gov. Nunn. Also included is President Eisenhower's Farewell Address.
