Collection Overview

Biography / History
Tobacco was the state's biggest cash crop, and by 1820, Kentucky was producing twenty percent of the nation's tobacco. The flourishing of Kentucky's economy came at a cost to the individual tobacco farmers, however, and many tobacco farming families suffered poverty and disease.
Scope and Content
The Malcolm Carraco Collection on Tobacco Farming (dated 1948, undated; 0.25 cubic feet; 31 items) comprises 31 images of tobacco farming and processing in Carollton, Kentucky. Most pertain to Ralph M. Marker Tobacco Redrying. These pictures were found in Golden Burley tobacco warehouse.
